TexFix is the rebranding and continuation of UT Health San Antonio's International External Fixation Symposium (IEFS) which was held annually for 15 years. Now, TexFix is bigger and better, just like Texas! TexFix focuses on teaching surgeons of all experience levels the principles of external fixation in the foot and ankle while adding the flavor of the Texas culture. Home of one of the oldest podiatry residencies and fellowships in the US, UT Health San Antonio's expert faculty are renowned for their expertise in Charcot foot reconstruction and management of foot and ankle trauma. TexFix courses contain didactic and practical experiences with cadaveric specimens and are optimal team building exercises.

Course Description
​
This year the conference will focus on the fundamentals of lower extremity external fixation mechanics and application. Attendees will learn about the basic principles of external fixation design and application and will have the opportunity to construct devices for several foot and ankle conditions. Day 1 will include lectures and dry lab workshops. Day 2 will focus on external fixation applications on cadaveric leg specimens.

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, residents, and fellows who specialize in podiatry and lower extremity external fixation mechanics and application.

Dr. Pehde is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedics, Division of Podiatry at UT Health San Antonio. He serves as the Director of the Amputation Prevention and Research Fellowship.
Dr. Pehde graduated with a degree in Health Services Organization and Policy from Wichita State University. He then attended medical school at Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, earning the Graduate with Distinction. He then completed a podiatric medicine residency at The West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a podiatric surgical residency at West Houston Medical Center in Houston, Texas and a limb deformity internship at the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Pehde focuses his practice on the treatment of the diabetic foot. This encompasses preventive high risk diabetic foot care, acute and chronic wound management and advanced foot and ankle orthoplastic reconstructive surgery to prevent major limb amputation.
Dr. Pehde is dedicated to teaching the next generation of podiatric physicians, including medical students, residents, and fellows. His research interests include advancements in medical and surgical diabetic foot treatments producing positive patient outcomes and implementing 3D printing techniques for diagnostic and patient care.
Dr. Rogers is a graduate of Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery and completed his residency training at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers of New York. He completed a fellowship in Diabetic Limb Salvage and Research at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, IL. He has authored over 150 published papers, books, and book chapters on limb salvage, policy and practice, and has delivered more than 500 lectures in all 50 states and over 30 countries.

Dr. Rogers is currently the President of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine where he led the effort to create the certificate of added qualification program and authored the Board’s guidance on hospital and surgical privileges for podiatrists.
Dr. Rogers is the Associate Editor (Diabetic Foot Section) for the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association. He received the Rising Star Award from the American Podiatric Medical Association for outstanding national accomplishments in 2011 and selected by Podiatry Management Magazine as one of the most influential podiatrists in America. He was chair of the American Diabetes Association’s Foot Care Council and Rogers is one of a select few American podiatrists to be honored as a Fellow Faculty of Podiatric Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
